What MotoGo collects in its apps, why, who can see it, and your choices.
MotoGo Passenger Privacy Policy
Pilot version · Last updated 30 September 2026
This policy explains what information MotoGo collects about you when you use the MotoGo Passenger app, why we need it, who can see it, and the choices you have.
MotoGo is a platform that connects passengers with motorcycle riders. MotoGo does not charge passengers and does not handle fares: you agree the price with your rider and pay them directly.
Who we are
MotoGo is a motorcycle ride service in Zambia. In this policy, “MotoGo”, “we” and “us” mean the operator of MotoGo. To contact us about your privacy, see “Contact us” at the end of this policy.
Information we collect
Name and profile: the name you choose to show to riders, and a profile photo if you add one.
Phone number and account: your mobile number, which you use to sign in. We send one-time sign-in codes to it by SMS, and keep a record of your sign-in sessions.
Pickup and destination: when you request a ride, the pickup point (your phone’s location, a place you choose or a point on the map) and your destination, and the names of nearby landmarks.
Location: the app uses your phone’s location to set your pickup point and show riders near you. MotoGo does not follow your location in the background and does not record where you go outside a ride request.
Rides: your ride requests, the rider who took them, trip times and distances, status changes, cancellations and their reasons, and trip PIN checks. During a ride, MotoGo records the rider’s route, not your phone’s.
Ratings: the ratings and comments you give riders.
Emergency contacts: the names and phone numbers you add as emergency contacts.
Device and app information: a notification token so we can alert your phone, basic information about the app and device used to sign in, and technical records (such as request times and errors) needed to run and secure MotoGo.
Communications: the notifications and SMS messages we send you, and whether they were delivered.
Safety information: SOS alerts, safety reports and trip-sharing links connected to your rides, including the location at that time.
How we use your information
To create and manage your account and sign you in.
To find a nearby rider for your request and show you where they are while they come to you and during the trip.
To let you and your rider call each other during a ride.
To send you ride updates and account messages.
To keep passengers and riders safe, respond to SOS alerts and safety reports, and look into misuse or fraud.
To fix problems, protect MotoGo from attacks, and understand in total (for example, how many rides were completed) how MotoGo is used, so we can improve it.
To meet our legal obligations.
MotoGo does not sell your personal information and does not show third-party advertising in the Passenger app.
What riders see
When a rider accepts your request, they see your display name, your pickup point and destination. Your rider also sees your phone number so they can call you, and you see theirs. Phone numbers are shown only from when the ride is accepted until the trip ends.
Riders do not see your emergency contacts, and they do not see who gave a rating or what it said.
If you share your trip with someone you trust, that person can follow the trip for a limited time: its status, the rider’s display name, their motorcycle and its current position.
Who else we share information with
MotoGo staff: authorised staff can see ride and account information to support rides and respond to safety issues. Staff sign in with two steps, and important staff actions are recorded.
Service providers that help run MotoGo, only for that purpose: SMS delivery (for sign-in codes), push notifications (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging), maps, routes and addresses (Google Maps Platform or OpenStreetMap-based maps), and the hosting providers that store MotoGo’s data.
Your emergency contacts: only when you choose to alert or share with them.
Authorities: when the law requires it, to respond to a valid legal request, or when needed to protect someone’s life or safety, for example in an emergency.
A new operator: if MotoGo’s business is reorganised or transferred, your information may pass to the new operator, who must keep protecting it.
How we store and protect your information
Your information is stored on servers operated for MotoGo. We protect it with measures such as encrypted connections, access limited to the staff who need it, two-step sign-in for staff, sign-in codes that expire quickly, and encrypted storage of your sign-in on your phone.
No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to fix problems quickly.
How long we keep information
Route points recorded during rides: normally deleted after 90 days, unless they are needed for an open safety case.
Notification records: normally deleted after 30 days.
Account, ride and rating records: kept while your account is open, and afterwards only for as long as needed for safety, disputes, accounting or the law.
These periods are settings in MotoGo and may change. If they change significantly, we will update this policy.
Your choices and rights
You can switch off location and notification permissions in your phone’s settings. Some features will not work without them; for example, you then choose your pickup point on the map.
You can ask us for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it, by contacting us. We may need to confirm it is you first.
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have other rights, such as objecting to some uses of your information or complaining to a data protection authority.
Closing your account
The app does not yet have a button to delete your account. To close it, contact us using the details below. We will deactivate your account and delete or anonymise your information, except what we must keep for safety, fraud prevention, accounting or legal reasons (see “How long we keep information”).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as MotoGo moves beyond the pilot. The updated policy will always be on motogo.live, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. For important changes, we will tell you in the app or by SMS before they take effect.

MotoGo Rider Privacy Policy
Pilot version · Last updated 29 September 2026
This policy explains what information MotoGo collects about you when you use the MotoGo Rider app, why we need it, who can see it, and the choices you have.
MotoGo is a platform that connects passengers with motorcycle riders. MotoGo is currently running as a pilot, so the services, features and payment arrangements described here depend on what the MotoGo app offers at the time you use it. We will update this policy as the service changes.
Who we are
MotoGo is a motorcycle ride service in Zambia. In this policy, “MotoGo”, “we” and “us” mean that operator. To contact us about your privacy, see “Contact us” at the end of this policy.
Information we collect
Name and profile: the name you choose to show to passengers, and your rider status (for example pending, verified or suspended).
Phone number and account: your mobile number, which you use to sign in. We send one-time sign-in codes to it by SMS, and keep a record of your sign-in sessions.
Identity and licence numbers: your NRC number and riding licence number, if you enter them.
Motorcycle: number plate, make, model and colour.
Location: while you are online, the app shares your phone’s location with MotoGo so we can offer you nearby ride requests. This continues when the app is in the background, and MotoGo shows a notification while it happens. During a ride, your route is recorded at regular intervals. When you are offline, the app does not share your location.
Availability: whether you are online or offline, and when.
Rides and offers: ride requests offered to you and whether you accepted or declined them, pickup and destination points, trip times and distances, cancellations and their reasons, and trip PIN checks.
Ratings: the ratings passengers give you and your acceptance rate. MotoGo uses them when deciding the order in which riders are offered rides.
Subscription and payments: your plan and its dates, and payment records. If you pay with mobile money, our payment provider tells us the paying number, amount, network, reference and result. MotoGo never sees your mobile money PIN. Cash payments to a MotoGo agent are recorded with the receipt number.
Device and app information: a notification token so we can alert your phone, basic information about the app and device used to sign in, and technical records (such as request times and errors) needed to run and secure MotoGo.
Communications: the notifications and SMS messages we send you, and whether they were delivered.
Safety information: SOS alerts, safety reports and route alerts connected to your rides, including the location at that time.
Verification documents
MotoGo is designed to let riders submit photos of documents such as their NRC, riding licence, motorcycle registration and insurance, so that staff can check them.
During the pilot, document uploads are switched off and MotoGo does not collect new documents. If this changes, we will tell you in the app before you are asked to upload anything. Documents submitted earlier stay protected as described in this policy.
How we use your information
To create and manage your rider account and sign you in.
To check that riders meet MotoGo’s requirements before they can go online.
To offer you nearby ride requests, and to show your passenger where you are while you head to them and during the trip.
To let you and your passenger call each other during a ride.
To manage your subscription and payments.
To send you ride offers, ride updates and account messages.
To keep passengers and riders safe, respond to safety reports, and look into misuse or fraud.
To fix problems, protect MotoGo from attacks, and understand in total (for example, how many rides were completed) how MotoGo is used, so we can improve it.
To meet our legal obligations.
MotoGo does not sell your personal information and does not show third-party advertising in the Rider app.
What passengers see
When you accept a ride, your passenger sees your display name, your rating (once you have enough ratings), your motorcycle’s make, model, colour and number plate, and your live location while you head to them and during the trip.
Your passenger also sees your phone number so they can call you, and you see theirs. Phone numbers are shown only from when you accept the ride until the trip ends.
If a passenger shares their trip with someone they trust, that person can follow the trip for a limited time: its status, your display name, your motorcycle and your current position.
Passengers never see your NRC number, licence number or documents. You do not see rating comments or who wrote them.
Who else we share information with
MotoGo staff: authorised staff can see rider information to verify riders, support rides, record payments and respond to safety issues. Staff sign in with two steps, and important staff actions are recorded.
Service providers that help run MotoGo, only for that purpose: SMS delivery (for sign-in codes), push notifications (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging), maps, routes and addresses (Google Maps Platform), mobile money payments (our payment provider and the mobile networks), and the hosting providers that store MotoGo’s data.
Verification documents are never public: staff open them through links that expire after a few minutes.
No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to fix problems quickly.
How long we keep information
Route points recorded during rides: normally deleted after 90 days, unless they are needed for an open safety case.
Notification records: normally deleted after 30 days.
Your current location: MotoGo keeps only your latest position while you are online, not a history.
Account, ride, rating, subscription and payment records: kept while your account is open, and afterwards only for as long as needed for safety, disputes, accounting or the law.
These periods are settings in MotoGo and may change. If they change significantly, we will update this policy.
Your choices and rights
Go offline at any time: the app then stops sharing your location.
You can switch off location, camera and notification permissions in your phone’s settings. Some features will not work without them; for example, you cannot receive ride offers without location.
To close your rider account, contact us using the details below. We will deactivate your account so you no longer receive ride offers, and delete or anonymise your information, except what we must keep for safety, fraud prevention, accounting or legal reasons (see “How long we keep information”).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as MotoGo moves beyond the pilot or adds features such as document verification. The updated policy will always be in the app, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. For important changes, we will tell you in the app or by SMS before they take effect.
